How to Buy Wholesale Hydrangeas from Colombia

a grower’s guide for international buyers

San Isidro Hydrangeas Farming · La Ceja, Antioquia · August 2026

If you buy flowers for a wholesale house, a chain of florists or high-end events, Colombian hydrangeas deserve a place in your program. Here is how sourcing directly from a farm works — written by one: San Isidro, growing hydrangeas in the Antioquian mountains since 1997.

Why Colombia — and why altitude matters

Our farm sits at 2,200 meters above sea level in La Ceja, Antioquia. At this altitude the plant grows slowly and steadily: heads come out larger, colors deeper, stems stronger and woodier — which means better hydration and longer vase life after the flight. And because the Andean climate barely changes through the year, harvest runs 52 weeks a year: no season, no gaps in your program.

What we grow

Capacity and logistics

The farm covers 15 hectares with a capacity of around 50,000 stems per week, currently exporting to more than 12 countries. Stems are cut by hand in the morning, hydrated and packed the same day in our on-farm packing room, then shipped cold-chain — air freight for most markets, sea freight for volume programs where the route allows it.

Sustainability, in numbers a buyer can check: fifty people work the farm (55% women), solar power in operations, eighteen years without herbicides and a tenth of the land set aside for conservation.

How to start a program with us

  1. Tell us your market and volumes — one email is enough to start: destination city, grades and colors you move, weekly or per-event volumes.
  2. We quote per grade and color family, with packing counts and freight options for your route.
  3. Trial box. Most buyers start with a single air-freight box to check quality in their own market before committing to a standing program.

Frequently asked questions

Can you tint to match a Pantone or brand color?

Very often, yes — with 23 techniques and 36 tint families we can get remarkably close. Send the reference and we will confirm with photos before you commit.

What vase life should my customer expect?

With proper rehydration on arrival (fresh diagonal cut, deep clean water), 7 to 15 days. Hydrangeas also drink through their petals — a 30-minute full-head soak revives a dehydrated bloom.
